Chefs Direct is owned and managed by Andrew Martin and Eric Smith.
Andrew Martin has been involved with the hospitality industry for 25 years as a chef and owns a successful catering business. He has worked at the highest level of the industry here in Melbourne and also in London, becoming Sous Chef at the 3 Michelin Star restaurant Nico at 90 on Park Lane.
Andrew has worked as a contractor for Interchefs/Chefs Direct for eight years before making the decision to purchase the agency in March 2013.
Andrew’s knowledge of the industry and what it takes to be a great chef in the casual labour hire market are extremely handy attributes, as it takes a special type of chef to be so adaptable in what is ostensibly a new job every day type scenario.
Not many chefs are able to cope with the pressure that comes with working in a new kitchen potentially every day.
Eric Smith has owned and successfully managed labour hire businesses for nearly 14 years and is a market leader within his particular industry area.
His success has been built around a philosophy of not compromising on the quality of the service he provides.
With his office staff he applies the same principle as he does when matching casual replacement staff to clients: ensuring you find the right person for the job and aiming for a perfect fit.
Eric’s aim is to transfer all he has learnt into helping to turn Chefs Direct into a market leader within the hospitality industry.
